The REAL Truth About the Sonic Boom Over DC---Bee Stewart discusses the plane crash that killed PGA golfer Payne Stewart

NORAD intercepted only one civilian plane over North America in the decade before 9/11: golfer Payne Stewart's Learjet, in October 1999. The chartered Learjet 35 lost cabin pressure and all six on board were incapacitated by hypoxia—a lack of oxygen.
The Learjet flew on autopilot until it crashed in South Dakota after leaving Sanford, Florida. It was first intercepted by an F-16 test pilot from Elgin AFB who was instructed by controllers to intercept the plane. Payne Stewart's mother recalls speaking with President Clinton about whether they would shoot the plane down.
