Almost all white people (who are being targeted by the left today) don't think about race in regards to themselves or other people. Ordinary people of any colour would find this sort of obsessive identity thinking weird too. However, indoctrinated people, with a chip on their shoulders, who have been brainwashed into thinking of people in racial groups as opposed to individuals, are likely to filter their world through such a lens.
This sort of identity thinking, Cultural Marxism, is the sort of thing that leads to divisions in society and persecutions of the alleged oppressor group, just as the Marxists in Russia or China engaged in the eradication of various undesirables. This is something that psychologist Jordan Peterson has warned about in recent years.
It is understandable that the vast majority of Americans would reject the left for pushing such ideas in the media and on the political stage.
