BIG, IMPORTANT NEWS: Our calls for the release of the Senate's Torture Report were heard. Senator Dianne Feinstein released the 500-page summary yesterday, and it details broad abuse of detainees and countless lies to cover it up.
Here's the lede from the New York Times's article this morning, headlined "Panel Faults C.I.A. Over Brutality and Deceit in Terrorism Interrogations":
WASHINGTON — The Senate Intelligence Committee on Tuesday issued a sweeping indictment of the Central Intelligence Agency’s program to detain and interrogate terrorism suspects in the years after the Sept. 11
attacks, drawing on millions of internal C.I.A. documents to illuminate
practices that it said were more brutal — and far less effective — than
the agency acknowledged either to Bush administration officials or to
the public.
And now she's catching hell for it, as the powerful forces whose crimes she is helping to expose push back against her -- and hard.
Feinstein did exactly what we hoped she would, and now we need to show her that we have her back.
Will you call her office and thank her for releasing the report? It'll just take 2 minutes:
If you're calling before 5pm Eastern, it's best to call her DC office at: (202) 224-3841
If you're calling after 5pm Eastern, try calling her San Francisco staff at: (415) 393-0707
You can say something like: "I agree
with you that the CIA's actions were a stain on our values, and that we
must learn from our mistakes. Thank you so much for releasing the
Torture Report -- we know it wasn't easy."
And thanks so much for your work on this important issue.
